Beginning of a family business enterprise starts at Maharagama in the year 1950 under the guidance of the Late Mr. I.A.D. Juwanishamy. A pioneer, respected businessman in the area and well-known and recognized as a prominent leader in Gold and jewellery business. His honesty, integrity and craftsmanship made the business develop and grow to establish as a household name in Maharagama.
In time to come, the family business was handed over to his son-in-law, the late Mr. Dharmadasa Dedigama. The late Mr. Dharmadasa Dedigama’s personal touch and integrity in the business made Dedigama Jewelers, the most trusted Gold House in the Western Province of Sri Lanka offering their customers a wide and varied range of jewellery. It was during this period, the Late Mr. Dharmadasa Dedigama, introduced trading of Sri Lankan gems and precious stones to the business.
A revolutionary change occurred in the traditional family business with Dr. Ranjan Dedigama, son of the Late Mr. Dharmadasa Dedigama, a product of Wesley College, Colombo, with a wealth of knowledge in gold and gems, taking over the responsibilities of the business in the year 1992, as the Chairman, whilst retaining the old charm and the personal touch which was the core value in their business.
With the idea of helping the needy in terms of finance, he ventured into Pawn Brokering which, today, has grown as Sri Lanka’s largest Pawn Brokering net work with 150 branches covering most of Sri Lanka.
In addition to the Pawn Brokering network, the group currently owns 7 jewellery outlets in Colombo and suburbs and employees over 1000 well trained employees including professionals and experts.
Dr. Ranjan Dedigama with years of experience in managing a diversified conglomerate of companies which comprises of Pawn Brokering, Gem and jewellery Exports, Jewellery, Hospitality, Property Development, Plantation Industry and Estates, Real Estate and Foreign Exchange Transactions has rapidly turned these into profit making ventures that have won the trust and confidence of the public.
The group is at present venturing into the hospitality industry and are the owners of 7 Tourist Class hotels at Anuradhapura, Unawatuna, Kataragama, Hanwella, Dambulla, Sigiriya and Wasgamuwa.
In addition to hotels the group has its claim in Property Development and Real Estate and owns and manage Estates and plantations in various parts of the island.
Dedigama Group under the leadership of Dr. Ranjan Dedigama carries on the sub agency for Western Union money transfer service operated throughout the country and was awarded 1st place for outstanding services rendered in the year 2011 & 2012 and merit awards in the years 2004 and 2005.
The rich heritage which formed the firm foundation is a testimony to its success story where it has proven its integrity since 1950.

It is with pleasure I write this message for our new profile. The name DEDIGAMA, a family owned and managed company, which became Sri Lanka’s most reliable supplier of gold and jewellery has now embarked on several areas with the prime intention of serving the people, is now developed and converted in to a Group of Companies.
As we continued to expand our network of 150 branches in the pawning division, the hotels division, in addition to Lavendish Beach Resort at Unawatuna, Lavendish Country Resort at Dambulla, Winreach at Sigiriya and Hanwella Resort at Hanwella, we were able to add Miridiya Lake Resort at Anuradhapura and Lavendish Okrin at Kataragama to our chain of hotels which are of star class.
Over the years, we have grown from strength to strength and spreading our wings throughout Sri Lanka, building on our unique legacy and culture. The core business activity of gold and Jewellery has, in addition has turned towards the Hospitality industry, Property Development and Real Estate, Plantation and Estates, Gem Exports and Foreign Exchange Transactions. We have always been outstanding in satisfying our customers by providing excellent customer service from the very inception, as we consider it as our prime duty.
